INTRODUCTION
My Personal Philosophy of Health Education
Health within society is often viewed as a singular aspect rather than a holistic state of wellness. When the focus is limited in its perception, the status of good health can suffer as a result. Without an understanding of the balance between emotional, mental, physical, spiritual, social, financial, and environmental health then our quality of life can become chaotic and unpleasant. We don’t expect to always have every facet of health in balance for the optimal state of wellness, but we should strive to achieve our own balance to maintain harmony in our health. Finding this balance and cultivating that harmony is a privilege some can access more than others in society. Unless wellness can be equally attainable to all within our society, then optimal public health can’t be realized. As a health education specialist, my goal will be to break down the barriers that prevent individuals from real equity in health. I want to reach the underserved, disenfranchised, and otherwise forgotten or mistreated populations and present them with opportunities for developing healthy lifestyles.
With technology advancing every year, there is potential to eliminate health disparities in the populations that suffer from the effects. My dedication is to explore the intersection of technology, digital innovation, and human-centered design to meet people where they are in life and guide them on a journey to better health. My approach will include attention to improving health literacy within disadvantaged communities and addressing poor communication. I will work to develop digital media strategies that are inclusive of all people related to specific health priorities. I can educate and advocate for programs that will attempt to meet the needs of those who have been ignored within the healthcare system. My attitude will reflect a humble, patient, sensitive, informed, inspired, and reliable professional when connecting with these community members.
